Museveni Pushes for Faster Integration in Meeting With EAC Secretary General
President Museveni has called for accelerated implementation of East African Community programmes, saying deeper regional integration is vital for economic growth, infrastructure development and improved livelihoods across the region.

President Museveni has urged East African Community member states to strengthen cooperation and fast-track regional integration programmes aimed at boosting trade, infrastructure development and economic transformation.

Museveni made the remarks during a meeting with East African Community Secretary General Stephen Patrick Mbundi and his delegation at State Lodge Nakasero.

According to the President, the discussions covered a wide range of issues affecting the regional bloc, including trade, infrastructure development, staffing, health, financing and broader efforts to deepen integration among member states.

As Chairperson of the EAC Summit, Museveni stressed the importance of collective action in addressing shared challenges and unlocking opportunities that can improve the welfare of citizens across the region.

He noted that stronger regional cooperation remains essential for advancing the Community’s development agenda and ensuring that integration delivers tangible benefits to East Africans.

The meeting comes as the East African Community continues to pursue key strategic priorities, including expanding cross-border infrastructure, enhancing intra-regional trade, harmonising policies and strengthening regional institutions.

Regional integration has long been viewed as a cornerstone of economic transformation within the bloc, with leaders advocating for improved connectivity, increased investment and the free movement of people, goods and services across member states.

The discussions also addressed health and financing, areas that have gained increasing prominence as member countries seek to strengthen health systems and mobilise resources to support regional programmes.

Museveni reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to the objectives of the East African Community and called for renewed efforts to implement programmes that promote prosperity, stability and unity across the region.

The Secretary General’s visit forms part of ongoing engagements between the Community’s leadership and partner states aimed at advancing the regional integration agenda and addressing emerging challenges facing the bloc.
